Certification
Chesapeake Sailing School
Students successfully completing the Basic Sailing course will receive either a 'Crew' or a 'Skipper' card. A Skipper card allows the student to rent one of Chesapeake Sailing School's Tanzer 22 without an instructor / captain. Crew cards can be updated to Skipper card by successfully completing additional classes, e.g. a 4-hour private lesson. A number of other regional Charter Companies recognize Chesapeake Sailing School qualifications.
American Sailing Association Certification
Students who successfully complete the Intermediate, Cruising,
or Bareboat Certification classes are eligible to receive American
Sailing Association International certification. These courses
include a written exam. ASA certification is recognized nationally
and internationally and can be used to verify competence at the
majority of charter locations.
